SEE REPORT OF OUR
Charity Summer Party
Well, what an amazing day it turned out to be! An even bigger turnout than last year flowed into the bar and filled the sunny garden. We arranged with Duncan (already well on the CAMRA map) to incorporate a beer and cider festival with our proceedings which Duncan also provided a great range of high quality fare for our barbeque (manned by Holly, Adam and Molly for over 7 hours!) The shared profits from that, plus raffle revenue, enabled us to donate a worthwhile amount to the training of guide dogs for the blind and Johnny Mathews with new dog Nessie in tow, gave us an informative talk about the matter.
The new PA system did us proud enabling us to adjust for each act. The OF&B team worked flat out with PA, food, tombola and furniture arranging. One p
Dave did a great hosting job while entertaining performers, in ones, twos and threes, took to the stage as the beer flowed and the barbecue sizzled in the sunshine.
At 4:30, we were treated to a veritable music feast from Mississippi McDonald and the Cottonmouth Kings- led by Ollie, towering over 6 feet in his red suit and Stetson hat -all done for a few beers so mega thanks boys! With the sun setting lower in the sky, we moved into the club room with stage for full-on music with Dave wisecracking all. The hall was packed as more performers arrived now from other gigs at the best gig in town-ours!
Jagger Folk kicked off with wonderful Irish-style music, then Coburn and cousins, followed by Deep South London (Frank and Mel), Nick and Simon and more up to the grand finale “Get-up and-dance” act, Mr. Frank Statesboro who finished to whistling and stomping!
We can now add a sound monitor to our PA system from club funds and look forward to new faces on Tuesdays. Huge thanks to Duncan, all audience, performers, helpers, tolerant neighbours ..................... and look forward to an even bigger extravaganza in 2014!
